2019 Vashon Island Strawberry Festival

Join us on Vashon Island as we celebrate 109 years of Strawberry Festival, a truly unique celebration for all ages and interests.

This fun-filled weekend features a grand parade, classic car parade, multiple music stages, vendor booths, Kids Zone, talented island artisans, and lively street dances. And that’s not all!  You can enjoy pancake breakfasts, a rockin’ beer garden, and an early morning fun run. Top it off with Vashon’s unofficial official mayoral race and you’ve now experienced Strawberry Festival like people have for over a hundred years!

Welcome to Vashon Island’s Strawberry Festival 2019. We can’t wait to see you.

July 2019 is being heralded as the 109th Strawberry Festival, BUT looking closely the matter is less clear than an Vashon Unofficial Mayor’s authority. Since people first congregated in tribes, festivals have been part of the landscape, usually in celebration of good things derived.  The settling of Vashon-Maury Island has been well documented, but very little is actually known about the festivals of our past.  However, we do know that festivals occurred throughout the 20th century, oftentimes on an individual island-area basis.
Today, we have an island-wide summer celebration called The Strawberry Festival. Growing strawberries was an early part of our island’s history, replacing the cleared timber...they grew rapidly, required minimal care, gave settlers a quick & easy yield, and by 1890 became a cash crop.
