Car Parade Participant Information

 

The Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce invites your participation in the 3rd Annual Tom Stewart Memorial Classic Car Show & Parade, Sunday, July 22, 2012. As in the past, this popular event is held during the Vashon Island Strawberry Festival scheduled this year for July 20 thru 22.Apart from the Parade & Car Show, as many of you know, our Island Strawberry Festival is a jam-packed weekend of uniquely old-fashion fun: food, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, children’s activities and much, much more. It’s truly a nostalgic walk-back in time to a small town Festival of days gone by and ideal for hosting this increasingly popular Car Show & Parade event.

The Tom Stewart Memorial Classic Car Show & Parade is an all-day event during the third day of Strawberry Festival. It consists of a 12:00 Noon car parade through town to the announcers’ stand for a formal car and driver introduction followed by parking in town center for spectator viewing and judging. Participants will be classified and judged within six prize winning categories:

1.) Pre-War Restored

2.) Post-War Restored

3.) Street Rod up to 1959

4.) Muscle Car

5.) Sport

6.) Truck

7.)  Best of Show

  • Entry fee = $10.00. Recommend early registration
  • (DOWN LOAD YOUR CAR SHOW & PARADE ENTRY FORM at www.vashonchamber.com) Car parade begins 11:45 am.
  • Car and drivers registration begins at 8:00 AM, Sunday morning, July 22nd 
  • Complimentary coffee, beverage and pastries provided. Early arrival recommended...check ferry schedule
  • Car show from 1:00 - 5:00 PM
  • Voting & judging from 1:00 -2:00 PM
  • Award presentations 2:30 - 3:00 PM

 

- Overview -

ARRIVAL:

Parade and show participants must arrive and park in the K-2 Commons north parking lot between 8:00 and 11:00 AM, Sunday, July 22

K-2 Commons is located at 19215 Vashon Hwy SW just south of SW 192nd Street (across from MOMS Deli & 76 Gas Station). See the enclosed map. Signs will be on the road marking the K-2 Commons north parking lot.  Drivers will be greeted upon arrival and directed to the staging area. Be sure you check weekend ferry schedules for both north end (Fauntleroy-West Seattle/Vashon) and south end (Pt. Defiance/Tahlequah) departures www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries. If you are bringing an additional vehicle that will not be in the parade, please find parking outside of the Festival area prior to check in.  Note; Many of downtown Vashon's roads will be blocked beginning at 9:30 AM for the Festival so please plan your arrival accordingly.  Please follow detours.

All owners/drivers are asked to sign in at the Registration Booth upon arrival.  Here a $10.00 registration fee will be collected if not already pre-registered. Registered drivers will receive their participation packets which includes their position number and complimentary participant and Festival mementos. There will be a hospitality/refreshment area where drivers and passengers will be formally welcomed and informed on Parade/Car show particulars. There will be a request for all drivers to assemble at the hospitality area by  11:15 AM for further and last minute annoucements.

PARADE ROUTING:

Cars will be staged following registration at K-2 Commons and depart at 11:45 AM.  You will be marshaled on the parade route. If you have a specific group you would like to roll with, please make arrangements to arrive as a group to insure you are staged together. This will help to facilitate a smooth departure from the K-2 parking lot and give the announcer at town center accurate vehicle placement for car parade introductions. Please listen closely at this time for the position line up call. The car parade will follow Vashon Fire Department and other rides with local dignitaries. The parade route ends at town center where car owners will be introduced with a brief description of your ride.  Here no burn-outs will be allowed. Following your introduction, you will be directed toward your nose-first biangular parking space.

CAR SHOW AND BEST OF SHOW CONTESTS:   

The car show, voting and award presentations will be from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.  The car show located in the middle of town is great fun! Not only will everyone be able to see the cars, you'll be able enjoy shopping, eating and gathering at our galleries, boutiques, restaurants and local watering holes. Judging and voting are done by car owners only. Voting ballots will be handed out at check-in.  Be sure to place your vote in the ballot box located in front of Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi Bar at or before 2:00 PM.

DEPARTURE:

Departure for both the south end and north end should be no problem. For those of you heading for the north end Fauntleroy/Southworth ferry dock will require a detour around the festival as many of the downtown roads will be blocked, so watch for signs.
