PARADE MARSHAL INFORMATION

In order to keep our parade fun, successful and SAFE, we have a few reminders:

All groups are required to have a Parade Marshal. Please follow these guidelines:

1)    Maintain proper distance between the groups in front AND back of your group. Each group should maintain approximately a 10 foot distance between each other.

2)    If your group is performing, your “act” should last no longer than 30 seconds before moving forward.  If possible, the performance should move forward rather than stopping.  You will need to adjust your group to performances in front and behind you.

 3)    Watch for crowd activity which may interfere or cause safety issues.  Parade Marshals – and others – need to watch for spectators who might cross the road in front of them or move toward the middle of the street.  This should not be allowed and the crowd should be told to stand back behind the lines on the street.

4)    Candy or other items CANNOT be thrown to parade spectators.  If items are being given to the crowd, someone must walk along the sides of the roads and hand or “scatter” them.  This prevents children from running into the road to collect candy or other objects.  This person cannot be the Parade Marshal.

The “ideal” Marshall would not be actively engaging with their groups but would instead only manage the above duties.  You will receive on loan an orange vest from King County Roads.  Please return this vest to the Chamber Information Booth at the library parking lot entrance after the parade.  A $25 fee will be charged for unreturned vests. This is a wonderful tradition!  Thank you for your participation and cooperation.
